Comic operas in one act, in Italian, with Hungarian and English surtitles

Hungarian premiere

Eight singers and hardly a dozen instruments: this could serve as a description of Giampaolo Testoni’s two one-act operas Fantasio and Fortunio, both inspired by the humour and and joie de vivre of Rossini’s own comic operas. The title characters are young dreamers who don disguises to escape into an imaginary world where their sole aim is to experience love. The contemporary Italian composer’s paired operas in which events unfold on the borderline between the planes of fantasy and reality has been staged by András Almási-Tóth in a revival of the Italian theatrical and operatic tradition: the artists of the Hungarian State Opera presented the two contemporary one-acts in Novara, Italy, in collaboration with the city’s Teatro Coccia, in December 2018.
