On demand: Beethoven's Piano Concerto no.2

GSOplayRecorded at Gothenburg Concert Hall: Stora Salen, Gothenburg, Sweden
Online until Wednesday 15 April 2020

How did Beethoven break through in Vienna? Well, he was mostly known as an improvising piano virtuoso, but became the composer on everybody’s lips over night after he played his piano concerto in B-flat major – the first, despite the numbering – on the 29th of March, 1795. An incredible career had begun.

Mari Kodama is the soloist for this Viennese classic, with Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra conducted by Santtu-Matias Rouvali.

Filmed in February 2020.

Extended concert range at GSOplay

Due to the corona pandemic, the concerts of the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra are closed to the public in the up-coming weeks. However, with a strong commitment and belief in the uniting power of music, Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra will be available to all music lovers on GSOplay. The concerts can be enjoyed for free for anyone on the web or through our app – wherever you are.

The ambition is to extend the range with new concerts available every tuesday and friday, culled from our rich archive with international artists such as Santtu-Matias Rouvali, Barbara Hannigan and Kent Nagano. Our hope is that sincere and heartfelt music-making will constitute a soothing and encouraging element in these troubled days.
