On demand: Haydn's Symphony no. 96 in D major

GSOplayRecorded at Gothenburg Concert Hall: Stora Salen, Gothenburg, Sweden
Online until Tuesday 31 December 2019

“Miracle”: a title applicable to Haydn himself, the man who “invented” the string quartet and the symphony. A huge chandelier crashed to the floor during the premiere of the Symphony no. 96 in London, but nobody was injured – a miracle indeed! As is this marvel of a symphony so full of life and invention that it charms listeners this very day.

Watch it in this great performance by Barbara Hannigan and the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra.

Filmed in October 2019.

You can also watch a mini interview with Hannigan talking about her collaboration with the GSO and her point of view on the role as a principal guest conductor, or you can read our student reviewer's opinion about this concert when she saw it live.
