On demand: Matre's ...yet from those flames no light

Bergen Philharmonic OrchestraRecorded at Grieg Hall (Grieghallen), Bergen, Norway

…yet from those flames no light… by Norwegian composer Ørjan Matre is scored for harp and orchestra, but half of the orchestra is not visible during the performance. The soloist is surrounded on stage by cellos, basses and three groups of winds/percussion while the rest of the orchestra (and the conductor) are placed offstage. The piece takes its title and concept from the opening of John Milton's Paradise Lost.

Watch this striking piece in its very first performance by the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and soloist Johannes Wik under the baton of Edward Gardner.

Filmed in December 2015.
