On demand: Carl Nielsen's Symphony no. 4

GSOplayRecorded at Gothenburg Concert Hall: Stora Salen, Gothenburg, Sweden
Online until Sunday 1 December 2019

Carl Nielsen wrote his fourth symphony in the shadow of World War 1. It's emotional, extroverted music about life and what it means to be human. Carl Nielsen’s motto for the symphony was: “Music is life, and as such inextinguishable.” He also called it “The Inextinguishable”.

Watch this striking piece as performed by the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Santtu-Matias Rouvali.

Click here to watch a short interview where Rouvali speaks about the particular affinity that the GSO players have with the music of Nielsen.

Filmed in September 2019.
