Aphrodite – fragments by Sappho, is the first part of Marie Samuelsson’s Love Trilogy, devoted to erotic love. The piece is written for mezzo-soprano and orchestra to texts by the Greek archaic poet Sappho, who lived on Lesbos in 630-570 BC. In Aphrodite, Marie Samuelsson paints a world where echoes from antiquity show how timeless and universal love is.
