On demand: Debussy's Syrinx and Sibelius' Luonnotar

GSOplayRecorded at Gothenburg Concert Hall: Stora Salen, Gothenburg, Sweden
Online until Tuesday 31 December 2019

It’s strange how the other-worldly sounds of Debussy’s Syrinx embrace us from ancient Greece, the cradle of civilisation. But that’s the eternal power of mythological themes, also present in Sibelius captivating Luonnotar (Nature’s Daughter) – a voice singing mysteriously through the centuries and still sounding fresh. Especially when sung and conducted by Barbara Hannigan and the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra.

Filmed in October 2019.

You can also watch a mini interview with Hannigan talking about her collaboration with the GSO and her point of view on the role as a principal guest conductor, or you can read our student reviewer's opinion about this concert when she saw it live.
