On demand: Jean Sibelius' Pohjola's Daughter

GSOplayRecorded at Gothenburg Concert Hall: Stora Salen, Gothenburg, Sweden
Online until Sunday 1 December 2019

In the symphonic fantasy Pohjola’s Daughter, Sibelius interprets national epic Kalevala and hero Väinämöinen who, while travelling from the cold country of Pohjola, sees in the sky a beautiful girl spinning a golden yarn on her spinning wheel.

Sibelius has charged his musical imagination with plenty of intensity and bright colours, well matched by the sounds of the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra and soprano Anu Komsi. Watch them perform this piece under the baton of Chief Conductor Santtu-Matias Rouvali.

Filmed in September 2019.
