Beethoven's piano sonatas are profound explorations of the great themes of music, life, and human existence. They are among the greatest masterpieces in the history of music and reflect both his personal journey and the evolution of music. For his concert, Víkingur Ólafsson has chosen sonatas No. 9, 27, and 30. The latter is considered one of the summit works of piano literature. It combines clarity and depth, and especially the second movement, a meditative Adagio, allows space for intimate reflection, while the finale, with its varying themes, showcases Beethoven's creativity. Beethoven's great predecessor, Johann Sebastian Bach, and one of his famous successors, Franz Schubert, are also featured in the program with other works, illustrating significant events in European piano music. Invited by the Dresden Philharmonic in cooperation with DK Deutsche Klassik.
