in scale and bristles with technical difficulties.
Lutosławski wrote his Third Symphony
for another great orchestra, the Chicago
Symphony Orchestra of the Solti era.
Completed in the early 1980s in troubled times
for the composer’s native Poland, it combines
experimental techniques with craftsmanship,
conviction and lyricism.
