Bach, Johann Sebastian (1685-1750) | English Suite no. 1 in A major, BWV806 |
Teun Wisse | Flauta dulce |
Teun Braken | Clave |
Nobody knows why Bach called his first six keyboard suites 'English suites'. Had a British patron commissioned the composition? Did he dream of an overseas triumph? Or was it the Frenchman Charles Dieupart, who had emigrated to England, who set an example with his Six Suites de Clavecin? With one Teun on recorder and another at the harpsichord, Teun & Teun present the canonical repertoire of Bach and Dieupart in arrangements that highlight the counterpoint splendidly.
