The Ring of the Nibelung is not only the cornerstone of the Budapest Wagner Days but also one of the most frequently performed and beloved productions in the entire history of Müpa Budapest. The tetralogy, which debuted in full in 2008, represents a huge challenge for the entire cast, particularly as it is performed on four consecutive nights as Wagner intended, something rarely seen anywhere in the world. Perhaps the most popular work of the Ring is Die Walküre, which contains the most passionate passages of music in the operatic cannon. The Ride of the Valkyries invigorates just as Wotan’s farewell stops us in our tracks, particularly when performed by a bass baritone of the calibre of Tomasz Konieczny. Speaking of the singers, there is every chance that Magnus Vigilius’s Siegmund and Albert Pesendorfer’s Hunding will be equally unforgettable experiences. A masterpiece with an interpretation to match – what more could anyone ask for?
