Carnival, a time of masks and laughter: the perfect time to rediscover one of the greatest "masks" of silent comedy, Buster Keaton's "stone face." This first screening will screen One Week and Neighbors , both from 1920, in an unprecedented combination with French Romantic piano music, performed live.
In both films, Keaton offers a humorous take on love; in the former, a newlywed couple attempts to build a prefabricated house with disastrous results; the latter recounts the tragicomic misadventures of two young people separated by a picket fence and hostile families.
