Orchestral re-imaginings of two chamber works – Shostakovich’s dark and desolate Sonata, Op. 134, written for violin legend David Oistrakh; and the spectacular intensity of Tchaikovsky’s Souvenirs de Florence. The percussionists and strings of the SSO join our Principal Guest Conductor Andrew Litton for this all-Russian programme, with British violin virtuoso Chloë Hanslip as leading lady in the Shostakovich.
