Celebrating their anniversary, Calefax revisits several high points. A definitive highlight was Dido & Aeneazz, an exceptional collaboration between trumpeter Erik Vloeimans and Calefax. The musicians bring a swinging energy to Purcell’s celebrated opera, blending the classical piece with musical styles like klezmer, calypso and jazz. Resisting the urge to move is practically impossible!
In Dido & Aeneazz, Raaf Hekkema’s (Calefax saxophonist) adaptation of Vergil’s classic tragedy is infused with a brand new energy, thanks to newly composed pieces by Eric Vloeimans. Hedy Tjin’s illustrations visualize the vibrant music beautifully.
