The motets of Bach and Bruckner are
established sets of works that showcase
the individual talents of each composer in
writing for voices. Bruckner’s are full of the
expressive, dynamic and harmonic ranges
that we associate with his symphonies while
Bach’s are full of the interplay that was so
fundamental to his music, sometimes
through counterpoint and sometimes with
double choirs. John Casken’s ‘The Knight’s
Stone’ with solo flute is the newest work in
the Northern Sinfonia Chorus repertory
and completes this programme of stunning,
beautiful music.
