Pianist Bruce Liu’s ascendance to superstardom has been swift. Incredibly, tonight’s performance is already Liu’s third Carnegie Hall recital, following his magnificent 2023 New York debut and a 2025 performance that earned four encores and acclaim for “imaginative program design matched by poetic playing [and] fiery and sonorous renderings” (New York Classical Review). Liu’s next recital begins with a charging, rarely heard etude by Ligeti, followed by Beethoven’s beloved “Moonlight” Sonata. The varied program also contains Alborada del gracioso from Ravel’s Miroirs suite; “El Puerto” from Albéniz’s Iberia; Liszt’s Rhapsodie espagnole; and numerous short works by Chopin—including pieces that Liu performed en route to his first-place win at the International Chopin Piano Competition.
