Dianto Reed Quintet | |
Wieger Meulenbroek | Director |
The five musicians of Dianto took DNA tests to find out about their origins. The results were very surprising: the predominantly Spanish quintet has roots from Greece to Scandinavia and from Mexico to the Balkans. During the performance, the wind players reveal this new family tree, bringing it to life with music from the regions that were identified in their DNA.
Both newly composed pieces and existing folk music are on the music stands. The quintet expands its instrumental palette with a bass guitar, the ‘gaita’ (a bagpipe from Galicia) and singing in Galician. DNA is a musical expression of the highly diverse composition of the group’s DNA and is an ode to global citizenship.
