In Baroque Naples, Christmas is an occasion for intense musical festivities. Traditional songs, tarantellas, and arias inspired by opera blend together in a surprising artistic syncretism.
A highlight of the religious calendar, it is also an opportunity for Neapolitans to express a certain paganism with a particular sense of theatricality. This taste for the staging of Christmas stories, for the mystery of the nativity, and for lyrical art merges and expresses both adoration for Jesus and the irrepressible desire to dance and celebrate.
Through a program of baroque arias and concertos, popular Christmas carols and tarantellas, we propose to share this musical fervor for the duration of an exceptional evening.
