The concert begins with Strauss’s tone poem Don Juan, based on a play about the promiscuous charmer who ultimately pays for his dishonest life. Music based on theater is also Stenhammar’s music for August Strindberg’s A Dream Play, which captures the expressionist and dreamlike atmosphere of the play.
