Hohe Messe

The Sweelinck Baroque Orchestra consists of students of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam who specialize in authentic performance practice. Together with vocal students and soloists from, among others, the Early Music department, they will perform the Mass in B minor, nicknamed ‘Hohe Messe’, the magnum opus that Johann Sebastian Bach wrote at the end of his life.

A multitude of styles are featured in this work: intimate arias and duets, majestic choral passages, beautiful instrumental solos and complex fugues alternate. Bach generously drew upon his earlier masterpieces, weaving them together into a compilation of highlights. With that, this final work from his career stands as a sublime final chord.
