Shulamit Ran’s latest String Quartet provides the intensely dramatic centrepiece of the Jerusalem Quartet’s enthralling programme. It prefaces the American Israeli composer’s work with Mozart’s brilliant ‘Dissonance’ Quartet, with its famously piquant opening and exquisite slow movement, and ends with Ravel’s first major chamber work, a tour de force of instrumental colours and virtuosity.
