Folk melodies from across Eastern Europe become vivid miniatures full of rhythm, colour and character – showcasing the many voices of the violin – in this masterpiece by Bartók. Performed in relay by four of the Orchestra’s violinists, the set journeys through Bartók’s playful and deeply human sound world. Bacewicz’s Quartet for Four Violins builds on that spirit of collective music-making, transforming folk energy into a bold work that celebrates the violin’s brilliance, agility and power.
