| Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra |
International superstar Sir Bryn Terfel loves visiting Liverpool, and tonight we’re in for a treat as he lends his sumptuous golden voice and commanding stage presence to six Schubert songs – music which Terfel says ‘sits permanently on his piano’. In an ode to the people and culture of Aleppo, Syria, Kareem Roustom’s Aleppo Songs reimagines the traditional Syrian qudud, while Domingo Hindoyan draws on his own cultural heritage to celebrate that city’s rich history. It’s thanks to folk-inspired themes that Brahms’ Second Symphony achieved its serene pastoral atmosphere and cemented his reputation as one of the true European greats.
