Refresh yourself with a musical splash of cool, sparkling water – a scintillating tone poem, a quicksilver concerto and a tranquil symphony.

The four movements of Respighi’s tone poem depict fountains in Rome at different times of day. The sumptuous composition begins at the Fountain of Valle Giulia, ‘in the fresh and humid mist of a Roman dawn’.

Talented soloist Lukas Sternath joins us fresh from winning the coveted Terence Judd-Hallé Award to perform Beethoven’s Third Piano Concerto. This piece marks the moment when the composer shook off other influences and came into his own, its dancing opening and closing movements cradle a slow section that’s full of depth.

Sibelius described his enigmatic Sixth Symphony as ‘pure cold water’. Its evocation of a peaceful pine forest might just leave you feeling mysteriously zen.
