An evening with a master pianist combining depth, range and insight: Peter Donohoe in Schubert, Chopin and Rachmaninov. The concert is followed by a post‑performance conversation hosted by pianist Kathryn Stott (Kings Medal for Music 2025), offering further insight into the repertoire, interpretation and performance.
Peter Donohoe presents a wide‑ranging programme that brings together late Schubert, Chopin and Rachmaninov, combining some of the piano repertoire’s most searching works with music of brilliance and momentum.
The concert opens with Schubert’s Moments Musicaux, concise pieces that move between lyricism and drama, followed by the C minor Sonata D958, one of the composer’s final piano sonatas, known for its drive, contrast and structural clarity.
After the interval, Donohoe performs a selection of Chopin’s Preludes op.28, before Rachmaninov’s Variations on a Theme of Chopin, a virtuosic work that expands Chopin’s famous Prelude into a large‑scale concert piece.
The evening concludes with a post‑concert discussion with Peter Donohoe, hosted by pianist Kathryn Stott (Kings Medal for Music 2025), offering audiences the chance to hear directly from the performer about the music and its interpretation.
