Gershwin to Bernstein

As the grand finale to the Royal Swedish Orchestra’s 500th anniversary celebrations, the main stage will come alive with colourful, energetic orchestral music from the USA. Alan Gilbert conducts.

The orchestra’s American Music Director, Court Conductor Alan Gilbert, was previously Music Director of the New York Philharmonic. He has now selected a number of gems from his homeland for a sparkling conclusion to the Royal Swedish Orchestra’s anniversary year. Hear the master melodist George Gershwin’s francophile tone poem An American in Paris and Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story in its symphonic suite version. Royal Court Singer Elin Rombo joins us in Samuel Barber’s beautiful Knoxville: Summer of 1915. Three – no, five cheers for the Royal Swedish Orchestra!
