Following the monumental success of the Ring Cycle, Regents Opera returns to the stage with a bold, intimate production of Verdi’s tragic masterpiece, Rigoletto. Under the baton of Musical Director Ben Woodward and directed by the Eleanor Strutt, this production strips away the artifice to expose the raw, beating heart of one of opera’s most devastating stories.
Set in a world where power is absolute and the vulnerable are mere playthings, this staging explores the claustrophobia of a life lived in the shadows. Eleanor Strutt’s direction focuses on the psychological complexity of Rigoletto - a man torn between his role as a cynical accomplice to the Duke’s debauchery and his desperate, suffocating love for his daughter, Gilda.
With a new arrangement that brings Verdi’s iconic score into startlingly close quarters, Ben Woodward leads a cast of world-class voices, ensuring that every note resonates with the intensity and precision that has become the hallmark of Regents Opera.
