A programme traversing Beethoven’s early period (Op. 2 No. 2 of 1794-5, the ‘Pastoral’ of 1801, the ‘Tempest’ of 1802) and middle period (Op. 90, 1814). The two nicknamed sonatas reflect possible connections in terms of the influence of Beethoven’s deep love of nature and admiration for Shakespeare’s play – though neither stems from the composer.
