The German ensemble Musikfabrik has been bringing adventurous performances to the Muziekgebouw for many years. This concert is all about colour in music. And specifically the music of four unique composers: Farzia Fallah, Sarah Nemtsov, Rebecca Saunders and Enno Poppe. They have all forged their own exciting paths after the sound experiments of the 20th-century avant-gardists. German/Iranian composer Farzia Fallah, who is rapidly advancing her career, will be performing a world premiere.
Farzia Fallah impresses with a mix of refined music from the Middle East and that of Western ‘colour composers’ such as György Ligeti and Salvatore Sciarrino. Sarah Nemtsov is making waves with her modernist experiments in timbre and playing technique. In Rebecca Saunders’ impressive Skull, piano, vintage organ, electric guitar, and an ensemble dominated by low wind players merge into an eerie music of silence. The seven wind players in Poppe’s Zug sound like a small marching band that have had a few too many drinks.
