Composers have long been inspired by the Arctic, its solitude and feeling of infinite space. Norwegian violinist Eldbjørg Hemsing, hailed by BBC Music Magazine for her ‘radiant and sophisticated’ playing, explores the identity of her beloved North as imagined by a diverse range of composers. Her programme, framed by Romantic sonatas by Schumann and Grieg, includes the haunting sounds of Vårsøg, Henning Sommerro’s folk-infused yearning for spring, and Einojuhani Rautavaara’s exquisite miniature Whispering.
