The OAE turns its period instruments towards the 20th century, joined by harpsichordist Jean Rondeau, who is as interested in pushing his instrument forwards as exploring its past.
Rondeau takes centre stage in Poulenc’s bracing Concert champêtre. Written for pioneering harpsichordist Wanda Landowska and premiered in 1929, it sets an instrument associated with the Baroque against a modern orchestra.
In the hands of the OAE, the past is never simply preserved: it becomes material for something bold and new.
Tickets: from £24
