London Schools Symphony Orchestra

The LSSO returns to the Barbican following its summer tour of Yorkshire and Birmingham, with a programme including Sibelius' Finlandia and Shostakovich's Fifth Symphony.

Moving from places physical to places imagined, Sibelius’s powerful homage to his homeland precedes Lyadov’s impressionist fairytale symphonic poem The Enchanted Lake, before we visit Australian composer Peter Sculthorpe’s Kakadu, a colourful and vivid homage to an Australian national park.

The centrepiece, Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5, has left many young musicians with a profound and moving experience as performers.
