Mahler's Second

Gustav Mahler’s monumental “Resurrection” Symphony No. 2 in C minor is a journey that transcends life and death. From the powerful opening, which ties in with his first (semi-biographical) foray into the world of symphony music, to the exultant, hopeful choir performance of the finale, Mahler combines intimate, introspective passages with moments of great orchestral splendour.

“Resurrection” tells a fascinating story that brings out the orchestra’s best qualities. Under the baton of its principal conductor, Ludovic Morlot, the OBC will feature top-level guest soloists – such as soprano Christiane Karg and contralto Helena Rasker – who will sing alongside the Orfeó Català.

Before this display of secular spirituality and strength, the L’Auditori audience will discover Cassandra, a new work by Blai Soler inspired by the visionary and tragic character of ancient myth. This is Soler’s first work to be premiered by the OBC and, once again – as with the Divinacions and Plain-chant – it is expected to transport listeners to surprising places.
