Opening concert

L’Auditori is kicking off its chamber season by embracing a living dialogue between tradition and modernity. The voice of resident soprano Elionor Martínez will be interwoven with a tapestry of strings spanning centuries and reminding us that music is a constant present, a shared breath and an essential emotion.

Bach’s suites and partitas, the Baroque at its finest, elevate dance to a sound meditation: balance, implicit polyphony and composition that gives each line a narrative. Some, such as Suite No. 3 BWV 1009, will be performed in a transcription for viola, sharing the soloist’s prominence with the other string players, who will take over in Sonata for Violin No. 3 BWV 1005, Partita No. 2 BWV 1004 and Partita No. 3 BWV 1006. Alternating excerpts from Kurtág’s Attila József, Op. 20 will interact and contrast with each other, bringing together gestures, purifying sound and transforming words into almost physical intensity. From Bach’s clear and structural style to the expressive density of the 20th century, this opening concert presents a deep and daring journey where past and present illuminate each other.
