Gateshead-born conductor John Wilson with his renowned “super orchestra” return, now familiar faces to us as one of our Artistic Partners.
Stuffed full of memorable tunes, Rachmaninov’s Second Piano Concerto has always been a hit with listeners, but it was catapulted into musical stardom thanks to its use in the classic film Brief Encounter, underlining its sweepingly romantic themes. Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade is the musical equivalent of a multicoloured Arabic lamp – full of dazzling musical colours and vibrant tunes. This night of big tunes is started off by something more small-scale, but with big intentions – Bacewicz’s Concerto is full of bold, zingy ideas, the ideal accompaniment to the rich sounds of the Rachmaninov and Rimsky-Korsakov.
Tickets – £5.00 to £55.00
