Mariss Jansons passed away on December 1, 2019. In his honor, the Bavarian Radio Choir and Symphony Orchestra performed Gustav Mahler's "Resurrection Symphony".

A prominent conductor of this memorial concert is Zubin Mehta, who was close friends with Mariss Jansons. Golda Schultz (soprano) and Gerhild Romberger (alto) were won as soloists.

Mariss Jansons, who has been chief conductor of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and Choir since 2003, would have celebrated his 77th birthday on January 14, 2020. The following day the choir and orchestra perform Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 2 in C minor in his memory.

During his tenure, Mariss Jansons gave this work a special place. It was not only conducted by him in Munich in May 2011. He also performed several times with the BRSO and BR Choir as part of a festival tour in summer 2013 - including at the Salzburg Festival, the London Proms and the festivals in Lucerne and Edinburgh.

The net proceeds from ticket sales for this concert will go to the "Neues Konzerthaus München" foundation and will go to the project for which Mariss Jansons has worked with great passion and in the service of music life in Munich over the past 16 years. Thankfully, Zubin Mehta and the two soloists waive their fees.
