Best of Ring

This programme was born from both impossibilities and opportunities, because while we were planning it, it became clear that the renovation of our Opera House on Andrássy Avenue would not be completed in 2018, as we had originally wished. This also makes it impossible to realise our production of Götterdämmerung, which we had intended to serve as the climax of our 2017/18 “Around the Ring” season, because the orchestra pit of the Erkel Theatre is inadequate for the size of the orchestra required, and, in its present state, the building's stage is also not suitable for rounding out our Ring. We are therefore organising a large-scale concert version presenting an overview of the entire Ring and featuring our finest singers. After the Erkel performance, a similar concert will be performed at the Kodály Centre in Pécs as a special event of the Pécs National Theatre Festival (POSZT).
