Emma Stratton and Abel Tomás

Abel Tomàs (violin), born in Barcelona in 1980, began his musical studies with his father (piano) and his uncle (violin), and later trained at the Reina Sofía School of Music in Madrid and the Hochschule für Musik in Cologne. As a soloist he has appeared with orchestras including the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra, the Vallès Symphony Orchestra, the Basque National Orchestra, the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra and the Andorra National Classical Orchestra. At the age of 16 he became a founding member of the renowned Cuarteto Casals, with which he has performed intensely since 1997 in the finest European halls and on tours across Latin America, the United States and Asia; the quartet has received the Spanish National Music Prize (2006), the Ciutat de Barcelona Prize (2005) and the National Culture Prize of Catalonia (2016). In 2009, together with his brother Arnau Tomàs and pianist Hyo-Sun Lim, he founded the Ludwig Trio. He teaches chamber music at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC) and has recently won a chamber music professorship at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg (Germany), and gives masterclasses at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague and the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole (Florence). Emma Stratton (piano), a Spanish-British pianist born in Pals in 1999, began studying piano at the age of six at the Palafrugell Music School and the Marshall Academy in Barcelona with Carlota Garriga. She graduated with honours in piano performance from ESMUC (2021) and completed a piano Master's at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg (2023), where she recently finished her Konzertexamen, also with honours. She has performed in venues such as the Palau de la Música Catalana and the Bechstein halls of Vienna and Hamburg, and in festivals including the Schubertíada in Vilabertran, Barcelona Obertura and ClasClas in Galicia. Highlights of her recent seasons include her debut at the Palau de la Música Catalana, the release of her first CD, the 2025 Enderrock Award for Best New Classical Artist and the Alicia de Larrocha Scholarship. Since 2022 she has been the founder and artistic director of the Festival Clàssic Pals.
