After a successful run in London in October, Duo Atlantis are returning to the Actors' Church for the opening of their European Christmas show tour, Lamplight Concerts: Christmas in a New Light, on Wednesday 25 November.
Christmas in a New Light, takes the Lamplight experience into the festive season. First, it will transform the spectacular 400-year-old Actors’ Church into a glowing landscape of one-of-a-kind lamps, intimate pools of dynamic light and live music. Part concert, part immersive art installation, it promises a magical evening of music, light and Christmas atmosphere.
The setting, created by The Prop Making Company’s Neil Darcy and Offie-nominated lighting designer Peter Small, evokes the late nineteenth century, with lamps surrounding the performance.
For centuries, light has carried warmth and hope through the darkest days of the year; from midwinter fires welcoming back the sun, to the star that guided the wise men to Bethlehem and the candles glowing among the branches of German Christmas trees. Then, in 1882, Edward H. Johnson hand-wired a string of red, white and blue bulbs around his tree and the Christmas lights known today were born.
Lamplight Concerts: Christmas in a New Light, brings that light a little closer: the lamps around you recall the turn-of-the-century world of the early Christmas lights, an era explored through art song and Christmas classics, so settle in, listen closely and be together as the programme moves through three Acts - Christmases past, the Christmas happening all around us now, and the Christmases still yet to come.
