Mahler Nine

With some music, words can’t ever come close. When Gustav Mahler wrote his Ninth Symphony, he knew that he was living on borrowed time, and so he poured everything he had into one of the most poignant and powerful symphonies ever written. In what should be a highlight of the RSNO’s Concert Season, Music Director Thomas Søndergård leads them through a wonderland of hymn tunes, Viennese waltzes, half-remembered songs and distant trumpets – before the sun sets on Mahler’s very own, heartbreaking farewell.
