The Orchestra performs music by Ives, Berg and Schubert.
So profound was the impact of Schubert's 'Great' Ninth Symphony that when Robert Schumann first encountered the manuscript he described it as 'transporting us into a world where I cannot recall having ever been before.'
The great Viennese tradition can also be savoured in Berg's Violin Concerto, a heart-breaking lament composed to 'the memory of an angel'.
