Newly written chamber opera opens the Baltic Sea Festival
The Baltic Sea Festival opens with a world premiere of a Swedish work. The chamber opera Föreställningen (The Performance) is set in the Salpetrière Hospital in Paris. As part of their treatment, three women, Henrika, Ann and Zora, are to appear before the world-famous physician Jean Martin Charcot and a distinguished audience. Katarina Frostenson’s strong text and Sven-David Sandström’s dynamic music shape the three women, their innermost struggles, self-contempt and pain, and also the empathy that arises between them. Föreställningen is a collaboration between the Baltic Sea Festival, the Royal Swedish Opera and Tre Donne and is commissioned by The Swedish Radio.
