In performing the Vespers in the acoustically wonderful Milton Court, Jeffrey Skidmore took the imaginative decision to interleaving its movements with solo piano works, played by Steven Osborne. It proved inspirational programming.

I’m not sure where Sinbad was sailing to in the St Petersburg Philharmonic’s Prom last night, but he sure wanted to get there in a hurry. A frenetic – and thrilling – performance of Scheherazade displayed great impetuosity. 

Steven Osborne brought a distinctive personal voice to Mussorgsky's ever-popular Pictures at an Exhibition and concentration, eloquence and delicacy to a selection of Rachmaninov's Études-Tableaux.
