To celebrate International Women’s Day, soprano Nardus Williams, lutenist Elizabeth Kenny and classicist and historian Mary Beard present a programme exploring the theme of ‘Women and Power’. This relationship is addressed through an interweaving of music for voice and lute, with discussion on topics ranging from Sappho to women’s solidarity.
The programme includes music by Barbara Strozzi, Francesca Caccini and Claudia Sessa, with poetry from Nossis to Carol Ann Duffy, and features a new setting of the Eurydice myth as a rebuttal or ‘anti-lament’, by Master of the King’s Music Errollyn Wallen.
