Vivienne has a doctorate from the University of Oxford and is an Emeritus Professor of Italian Literature and Music at Royal Holloway, the University of London. She is the author of three self-authored, academic books, including Sweet Thunder (Oxford: Legenda, 2006): a study of music and its relationship to literature in 1960s Italy. She has published many articles on Niccolò Paganini and his representation in literature and the visual arts. She has a passion for the violin and for Italian and French opera.
