Jac van Steen conducts Petrushka, plus highenergy showstoppers from Honegger, Hindemith and Ravel, all commissioned by Koussevitzky for the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
It’s springtime in old Russia, and as crowds throng the Shrovetide Fair, spirits are rising. But a puppet can’t have feelings… can it? Stravinsky’s Petrushka completes an evening of 20th century music at its most vivid. Steam trains, blues piano and the big-band swagger of strings and brass – this should be an evening of thrills and delights from one of the CBSO’s best-loved guest conductors alongside pianist Benjamin Grosvenor.
