One of the most beloved melodies in Mozart’s The Magic Flute is Pamina and Papageno’s love duet Bei Männern, welche Liebe fühlen. Beethoven, too, was captivated by the duet’s warm character and used the melody in a set of variations for cello and piano. With imagination and finesse, he lets the instruments take turns illuminating the theme from different perspectives – at times playful, at times filled with romantic longing.

The British composer Rebecca Clarke was one of the country’s first professional female orchestral musicians. She studied composition with Sir Charles Stanford and wrote many works for her own instrument, the viola. Here, however, we hear her Rhapsody for cello and piano – compelling and beautiful music on the threshold between Romanticism and Impressionism.

The cellist Hanna Dahlkvist, a member of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra since 2015 and also cellist of the Dahlkvist Quartet, is joined by pianist Darya Tchaikovsky, a frequent guest in Konserthuset’s chamber music series.
