Trumpeter Imogen Whitehead and pianist Patrick Milne present a soulful programme spanning George Gershwin, Florence Price and a new work inspired by Miles Davis. The programme highlights Whitehead’s warm, expressive sound – praised as “impeccable” by BBC Radio 3 – across both trumpet and flugelhorn, with Milne bringing sensitivity and nuance from the piano.
An in-demand soloist, chamber musician and orchestral principal across the UK and internationally, Whitehead is a passionate champion of the flugelhorn – an instrument often overlooked in the classical sphere. She is dedicated to raising its solo profile through new commissions and imaginative arrangements. Alongside her role as Principal Trumpet of the Britten Sinfonia, Whitehead performs regularly with leading orchestras including the London Symphony Orchestra and English National Opera, and has appeared on major film soundtracks such as Maestro and Saltburn.
Patrick Milne is a staff pianist, coach and conductor at the Royal Opera House and has performed across Europe and the UK at venues including the Barbican Centre, Wigmore Hall, Cadogan Hall and several times at Ronnie Scott’s. He has conducted at Opera North, Scottish Opera, the Royal Opera and in HMP Prison Isis in Our House featuring Suggs.
