Accordion sensation Miloš Milivojević joins Sinfonia Viva in music by Piazzolla, Brahms, Bartók and Albéniz – and things are about to catch fire.

Thought you knew the accordion? Think again, because when Miloš Milivojević plays the humble squeezebox, he shoots for the stars. “Milivojevic’s artistry on the button accordion took the breath away” wrote one critic; for another, he’s simply “a hurricane of imaginative invention”. “Accord for Life” is his personal motto, and in his hands the accordion crosses continents and centuries, creating new sonic worlds. In this unique collaboration with Sophie Rosa he travels from the dance halls of Buenos Aires – birthplace of the tango – to the gypsy campfires of Eastern Europe. Every note will be alive with colour; we can’t wait to make music with him, and to share it with you.

In other words, he’s exactly the sort of guest we love here at Sinfonia Viva. Miloš and Sophie have put together a parade of melodies that burn with the same kind of exuberance and passion. Expect untamed folkdances from the Carpathian mountains, sultry showpieces from Hungary and the haunting melodies of Spain – as re-imagined by Brahms, Bartók, Sarasate and Albéniz. Plus, of course, the nuevo tango of Astor Piazzolla; music as tuneful as it is sophisticated. They say that it takes two to tango. But this afternoon, at the Museum of Making, anything is possible, and everyone is welcome.
